Storing Goodness
This verse says that God is storing up good things. What exactly are those good things? Safety? Peace? A quiet heart when life is crazy? Joy even when your best friend is mad at you? It would seem that his goodness could be all of these and much more.
God has so much goodness that he actually has to store it. If he didn’t, we would be overwhelmed by it all at once! The goodness of God is for those of us who know and love him. God rewards us more than we could imagine in our wildest dreams when we choose to follow and obey him.
Prayer: God, we trust in your goodness. Thank you that you store up so many good things for those who love you. We have been so blessed by you and we acknowledge that today.
Activity: Pass a piece of paper around the table and have each person write down one good thing they are thankful for. Pass the paper around again. And one more time. You could probably pass the paper around the table ten more times and not run out of things to thank God for. Spend some time thanking him for the good things everyone has listed.
Did you know...
If you look up “good things,” you will stumble upon many physical things that people call good: space savers, fancy water, burgers and fries, stain removers, doorstops, garden tools, pillows, the list goes on and on. There are companies, charities, and foundations that all try to define what goodness is either by selling good products or naming their brand with the word good. God has his own definition of the word, and what we call good pales in comparison.
