 Week Six - Day Five - I can Run my Race

Welcome to our ‘Run the Race’ Devotional - we are so excited to have you following along with us as we journey through the Bible.  We are taking a look at some people in the Bible to find out how they ‘Run the Race’ that God set before them.  Each of us has a ‘Race to Run’, something that God has made us for.  Our ‘Race’ is like a lane on the running track but the best, most exciting thing is, we get to ‘Run our Race’ together with God and He provides EVERYTHING that we need to complete our Race!

Jesus came to the river where John was baptising people and asked John to do something that surprised him….

READ:

John Baptises Jesus  in the Beginners Bible (pages 303 - 307 ) or in Matthew 3:1-17, Mark 1:1-11, Luke 3:1-22 or John 1:1-34.

One day Jesus came to the river.  John knew that Jesus was the special person he had been talking about. 

Jesus told John that he needed to be baptised by John - this was all part of God’s plan, all part of His plan for John to ‘Run the Race set before him.’ 

John was surprised, but Jesus said, ‘It is right for you to do this.’  - Jesus knew that God had planned this from the beginning.  

ASK:

Has anyone ever asked you to do something very important? 

How did this make you feel?  Were you surprised like John?  Were you a little nervous? 

Sometimes God will ask us to do things that we may think we can not do - maybe this is talking to someone for the first time?  Or maybe telling someone about Jesus?  But with God we can do all things.  Just like John, we can ‘Run the Race set before us’. 

REMEMBER:

‘So we have many people of faith around us. Their lives tell us what faith means. So let us run the race that is set before us and never give up’ (Hebrews 12:1) 

SAY:

I am an overcomer  

I can run my race

I can raise a happy sound.

His people all around.

My God has given me everything

He is faithful and true,

With my eyes firmly fixed on Him

His power will get me through!
