 Week Six - Day One - I can Run my Race

Welcome to our ‘Run the Race’ Devotional - we are so excited to have you following along with us as we journey through the Bible.  We are taking a look at some people in the Bible to find out how they ‘Run the Race’ that God set before them.  Each of us has a ‘Race to Run’, something that God has made us for.  Our ‘Race’ is like a lane on the running track but the best, most exciting thing is, we get to ‘Run our Race’ together with God and He provides EVERYTHING that we need to complete our Race!

This week we are going to be looking at the life of John the Baptist and how God had given him a very special blessing - John got to Baptise Jesus - this was all part of God’s plan for John’s life. 

READ:

John Baptises Jesus  in the Beginners Bible (pages 303 - 307 ) or in Matthew 3:1-17, Mark 1:1-11, Luke 3:1-22 or John 1:1-34.

John was born just before Jesus was - they were cousins - do you have cousins?  God’s plan for John’s life was to be the cousin of the saviour of the world! 

When John grew up he lived in the desert and ate bugs and honey!  Wow!  What is your favourite food?  Bugs and honey may not seem like the nicest of things to eat, but for John, they were the perfect thing. 

John lived a very simple life and loved God very much and lived his life telling others about God.  John had a very special ‘Race to Run’ and God had given him everything he needed to ‘Run his Race’.  

ASK:

Did you know that God knows exactly what you need to ‘Run your Race’? 

Can you think of some of the things an athlete may need to do to prepare for a race? 

Can you name some of the things that God has given you? 

REMEMBER:

‘So we have many people of faith around us. Their lives tell us what faith means. So let us run the race that is set before us and never give up’ (Hebrews 12:1) 

SAY:

I am an overcomer  

I can run my race

I can raise a happy sound.

His people all around.

My God has given me everything

He is faithful and true,

With my eyes firmly fixed on Him

His power will get me through!
