Down to Earth: A Christmas Devotional JourneySýnishorn
Day 4: Humble Yet Spectacular
Reflection
In his Gospel, John describes Jesus as "the word of God" – God’s Perfect Self-Revelation. And in Revelation, that same Name is given to this Great Warrior King, leading His Divine Army into battle against the forces of evil and all those who oppose His Good Rule.
It’s a striking image of Jesus. Can we still relate to Him and know such a King personally?
Yes, because it’s still the same Jesus. His Robe, John says, is dipped in Blood – His own. It’s the same down-to-earth Jesus who showed what kind of King He is by becoming one of us and dying for us on the Cross.
John’s spectacular vision isn’t just about the end of time. He’s writing to suffering Christians then (and now) about the present reality currently hidden from our view, reminding us that God reigns right now. Jesus is our Victorious Warrior King right now, and one day everyone will know it.
"King of Kings and Lord of Lords" was a title claimed by many an ancient ruler as they conquered nation after nation – until they themselves were knocked off the top spot. But Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords forever. The same down-to-earth Jesus, who in humility became one of us, understands our everyday down-to-earth situations and rules and reigns over them all.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to trust that You are Lord over every part of my life and give You the honor You’re due. Amen.
