Down to Earth: A Christmas Devotional Journey

DAY 25 OF 25

Day 25: Christmas Day - The Down-To-Earth Day

Reflection

Christmas Day gives us all a beautiful annual opportunity to celebrate God’s down-to-earth Arrival as a Baby. The long-awaited and desperately needed Promise of Immanuel – God with us – is seen in the Birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

I pray that whatever the Day holds for you today and whoever you are with, you’ll be able to take this moment now to consider the moment when Jesus was born. It’s good for us all to reflect on the miracle of the Incarnation and give personal thanks and praise to God.

In this devotional journey we’ve celebrated the down-to-earth God, whose Arrival demonstrated Love, Humility, Connection, and Understanding. We know our God can relate to our everyday challenges and opportunities, precisely because He came down to Earth to be Immanuel – God with us.

Verse 20 in today’s reading assures us that Jesus didn’t just visit us, but instead stays with us. So, even on Christmas Day, we also consider the Risen Jesus. His Great Commissioning Words at the end of Matthew take the Immanuel Promise to a whole new dimension. "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Just as we look back today and celebrate Immanuel in the Christmas accounts, we look forward and celebrate God with us in the everyday places where we find ourselves.

Every Truth we’ve celebrated about our down-to-earth God over Advent remains true in our workplaces, leisure places, and homes – in fact, in our everyday and our everywhere.
