God’s Will Is Above All

DAY 3 OF 5

God’s Will Is Above All

ABOVE OUR AGENDA

MAIN IDEAS:

• The arrest and killing of John the Baptist follows a divine schedule of sorts, that goes beyond circumstances and people.

• Jesus calls His disciples and asks them to follow Him and to give up their daily preoccupations.

• Following Jesus presumes to place all other plans in second place. God is above anything that might preoccupy or compel Him.

It would seem that, for JESUS to develop His public work, GOD takes John Baptist out of the scene. This goes beyond John’s agenda and Herod’s sympathy for him. GOD simply controls the circumstances and orchestrates John’s retreat. John does not work according to his agenda, but according to God’s. The same thing applies in JESUS’ case, and He asks the same of His disciples whom He calls to follow Him. Everything JESUS did on this earth was done according to a well-defined plan that was conceived together with the Father and followed with all His works.

Following JESUS, the disciples understood that they would give up their plans and businesses which, from that day forward took second place. To this day, the follower of Christ places GOD, His plans, and priorities above his own agenda. There should be nothing that makes the disciple obey anything else beyond the will of GOD.
