Daily Bible Reading— October 2024, God’s Guiding Word: Justice and PeaceSýnishorn
October 21
Introduction
Isaiah 58:1–14: Outwardly, the people continued to worship the LORD. But their acts of worship were meaningless because they did not treat one another with justice and respect. True worship involves more than ritual acts of honor or praise.
Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 58:9a
[The LORD says]: “When you pray, I will answer you. When you call to me, I will respond.”
Reflect
Reread verses 6–12. How are true worship and fasting described? What are the people instructed to do to please the LORD? What does the LORD promise? According to verses 13 and 14, how is the LORD’s holy day to be observed? How would you describe the worship life of your community of faith? In what ways do you value and honor the LORD’s “holy day”?
Pray
Lord God, teach me to honor you each day with acts of kindness and by pursuing justice and peace. Help me to live in the light of your truth. In your holy name I pray. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Isaiah 59:1–21: The prophet condemns the people’s sins.
