Deeply Rooted Part 2Sýnishorn
No Pain, No Gain
There is a common phrase in the exercise world, “No pain, no gain.” It’s universally accepted and attributed to the sculpting of our bodies. (Think of a heavy weightlifter’s physique here). But the same principle can be applied to the sculpting of our character and the deepening of our spiritual life.
So, when the road gets bumpy or when the storms rage against you, there are a few things you can do to build your faith muscle and protect your soul. For example, I could get a nice helmet to wear when I go outside in case the sky falls, or I can use an umbrella to keep me dry in those sudden downpours.
We also have insurance policies that cover our property, investments, and possessions. We insure ourselves for every tragedy from floods to famines and will make sure our policies are up to date. But there is one thing we need that can’t be seen or bought. And that’s our trust and faith. Faith and trust in God are our one true shelter, our refuge in all times.
Trust is an absolute to faith. Faith is an absolute to trust in God.
When storms arise, instead of responding from fear and panic, equip yourself with His restful peace. Any out-of-control emotions will propel a lie and negate the peace of God. The enemy will come after your shield of faith with his fiery darts and aim for your soul’s trust.
To be deeply rooted in fearful situations means we must draw upon the Lord. It would be nice if we had a clearance pass for every scary situation, but we don’t. But we do have Jesus who promises that He will always be with us and will never forsake us, even when the going gets rough.
We do have His promise in John 16:33 which says, I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
Life involves times of painful growth. Even though I know the Lord understands, I must repent of my unbelief and confess my weaknesses to God. The promises of Jesus teach us that we can have His authority to speak over every trial and sorrow and take heart in Him alone as He deepens our faith roots.
About this Plan
A deeply rooted faith requires every believer to know God through His Word and by His power. The only way we can withstand the attacks of the enemy and the pressure of everyday life is by having our foundations on the solid bedrock of the Scriptures. God’s recorded revelation and words of truth have changed millions of people throughout history and is essential in developing a deep spiritual root system.
