31 Values to Pray for Your Kids

DAY 8 OF 31

Mercy

As Christians, we are called to embody the compassion and mercy that Jesus demonstrated. Sometimes, our world can be harsh and unforgiving, so we should desire our children to understand the importance of showing mercy to others, just as they have received mercy from God.

In Luke 6:36, Jesus calls us merciful, just as our Father is merciful. We pray that our children will understand God’s mercy toward them and be inspired to extend it to others and that they learn to forgive readily, show generously, and act compassionately in all their dealings.

Ephesians 2:4-5 reminds us of the richness of God's mercy, which has brought us from death to life through Christ. We want our children to understand that God's mercy demonstrated through salvation is the foundation of their lives. God has proven that He profoundly loves and values them. This awareness of God's immense mercy will motivate them to live mercifully, reflecting His love and grace.

The parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32 vividly illustrates the boundless mercy of our Heavenly Father. Just as the father in the story forgave and welcomed back his wayward son with open arms, so does God offer mercy to each of us. We pray that our children will recognize this incredible mercy in their lives and be encouraged to show mercy to others, knowing that forgiveness and compassion are powerful expressions of God's love.

Pray:

Father, in Jesus’ name, we lift our children to you, asking that you fill their hearts with your mercy. Help them to understand and appreciate the depth of your mercy toward them, and inspire them to extend that same mercy to others. May they be quick to forgive, generous in their kindness, and compassionate in their actions. Let them reflect your love and grace in all they do, living out the mercy they have received from you. Guide them to be merciful, just as you are merciful, and may their lives be a testament to your boundless love. We pray in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
