31 Values to Pray for Your Kids

DAY 19 OF 31

Humility

Jesus told us that the greatest in the kingdom of heaven should be the greatest servant. That is the birthplace of humility. One of our deepest desires should be to see our children grow in humility, a virtue at the heart of authentic leadership. The call to humility is a counter-cultural reminder of the transformative power of meekness and servanthood in a world that often exalts pride and self-promotion.

In Titus 3:2, we are instructed to speak evil of no one, avoid quarreling, and be gentle, showing courtesy toward all people. This verse encapsulates the essence of humility, a gentle and gracious spirit that extends kindness and respect to everyone we encounter. As we teach our children to walk in humility, we invite them to reflect the character of Christ in their words and actions.

Philippians 2:3-4 admonishes us to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility to consider others better than ourselves. This passage challenges us to reorient our perspective, shifting our focus from self-interest to the needs and interests of others.

In John 13:1-17, we witness the profound humility of Jesus as He washes His disciples' feet. Despite being the Son of God, Jesus stoops to perform the lowest of tasks, demonstrating the true essence of greatness through servanthood. His example challenges us to follow in His footsteps, humbling ourselves before others and serving them with love and grace.

Pray:

Father, in Jesus’ name, we come before you with hearts humbled by the example of your Son, Jesus Christ, who demonstrated true greatness through humble service. We pray that you will fill our children with a spirit of humility that reflects the character of Christ in every aspect of their lives.

Grant them the grace to speak words of kindness and to show perfect courtesy toward all people, following the example of your Son. May they consider others better than themselves, humbly serving those around them with love and compassion.

Help them emulate the humility of Jesus as they walk in His footsteps and seek to be instruments of your peace and reconciliation in the world. May their lives be a testament to the transformative power of humility and the beauty of a life lived in service to others. We pray in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
