DAY 5 OF 6

Day 5: Remember Your Reasons Why

Once you have begun putting the things we’ve discussed in this devotional into practice, I’m sure it will be relatively easy at first. You’ll be highly motivated to change, and feeling good about any progress you make. Just know ahead of time that difficult days will come.

You will certainly have times when you are highly tempted to go right back to that nasty old habit. So I want to give you something you can hold on to in tough times. Remember your reasons why you wanted to change in the first place.

Remember how much damage pornography does to your brain and your body. Remember how guilty it makes you feel when it’s over. Remember how you have to sneak around and hope you don’t get caught. Remember that it breaks your intimacy with God and makes it harder for you to hear Him. Remember that your current or future family is affected by the habits and choices you make now.

Do you remember how the children of Israel were crying out to God for help when they were slaves in Egypt? Then when God rescued them, they started complaining and said it would have been better for them to have stayed in Egypt? Don’t be like that. Don’t complain about being saved just because it’s hard. Staying enslaved is much worse.

If you stick with it you will be able to rejoice in complete freedom one day, having conquered pornography and lust. Let Jesus finish His perfect work in you and empower you to stay free.
