Real Life

DAY 14 OF 25

Kenyan refugee Tavitha Njeri Kibiru would have had every right to want to put herself first. In 2007, she found herself fleeing from post-election violence, forced to leave behind everything she owned to find some sort of safety. After receiving a tent for shelter, Tavitha then spent whatever spare time she had writing down the name of each refugee who needed more permanent housing. When asked why her name was not on the list, she simply said that others needed help more. What an amazing example of honoring the people around you and putting their needs above your own!

Now, not all of us will have the opportunity to honor others in such an overwhelming way. But we do all have the opportunity each day to choose to put others above ourselves. We can show God’s love through how we serve and honor those around us.

Take a minute to think about the friends, families, and neighbors in your life. Are there any areas where you can choose to honor those around you? How can you serve those you interact with and put their needs first this week?
