It’s pretty easy to take light for granted. Any time we walk into a room, all we have to do is flip a switch, and BAM! We have light. Even when intense storms knock out our electricity for a time, we can rely on things like a high-powered flashlight or candle to help us see our surroundings. In the developed world today, light seems to be available to us everywhere. But what if that weren’t the case? What if we lived in a place with absolutely no light at all? Would we still feel safe, knowing that we can’t see what’s happening ten feet in front of us? Would we be able to make it in the dark? What we know with absolute certainty in the light can quickly become frightening, confusing, or even menacing in the dark. The good news is, as believers, we don’t have to worry about staying in the dark. That’s because we have access to the ultimate source of light: Jesus. He not only guides us through the darkness, He brings us the light that will illuminate every part of our lives.
Today, spend some time in prayer, thanking God for the light He gave to us in such a dark world. Think of specific situations that felt like darkness where God has helped guide you through and give thanks for the way His light carried you through that time of your life.
