My Soul Trusts in Him

DAY 1 OF 5

Chapter 1 – Anointings Journey

I sit in my church, thinking of a way to start writing this life-changing devotional. I can only think of the different situations this devotional may find you: lonely, sad, confused, searching for answers, facing death, sickness, career, relationships, family, finances, sin, addiction, habits, or hopelessness. The title 'My Soul Trusts in You' is a general phrase until that 5-word phrase indeed entirely describes your present situation. At which point, everything is serious, nothing is a joke, and I would encourage you to finish this small devotional at the soonest, not once but as many times as you can because I pray and firmly believe that it will help you know the precious Heart of God towards you.

So, whatever situation you are in, I pray and ask God that at the end of this devotional, the phrase 'My soul trusts in you' won't be a last resort phrase said in hopelessness but a bold lifestyle statement to stride and scream "MY SOUL TRUSTS IN YOU!!"

So, let's discover "My Soul Trusts in You – Jesus!"

Psalms 57 is one of those chapters in the Bible that we all must know for the times that leave us lonely, depressed, and hopeless, like there is no way out. But before we go discovering this very amazing-full of revelation bible chapter. Let me give you some context.

In 1 Samuel 16, God says to Samuel, "Fill your horn with oil and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons."And Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me." (because Saul is insecure about losing his kingdom and thus is paranoid about saving it), and the Lord said, "Take a heifer with you and say,'I have come to sacrifice to theLord. So, Samuel does what the Lord suggests. Now, you should know that Samuel is not in the best of his moods at this point. He is just reeling from his supreme anger with Saul and his blatant disobedience and lies. Samuel was so angry that he called 'Agag' the enemy king whose life Saul spared in his disobedience and quite literally hacked him to pieces with a sword unto death. So, everyone thought a billion times before messing with Samuel - they were terrified of him.

And this man who just hacked a king to death was walking into Bethlehem with a secret agenda - to anoint a new king, but no one was asking him for his plan. No one knows why he was there except for what he tells them, "I have come to sacrifice to the Lord." Now, Samuel invites Jesse and his sons and consecrates them to anoint one of them as king, but again, nowhere in the chapter are the sons of Jesse told what's up; they are simply following the will of the prophet.

Samuel walks to one son after another, assuming they are the next king, but seven sons later, and none of them are selected; Samuel asks Jesse, "Are all your sons here?" Now, to imagine the sheer indifference of Jesse shocks me. Jesse gave more importance to feeding the sheep than having David, his 8thson, attend Samuel's invitation. Clearly, Jesse had discernment issues. Jesse responds to Samuel, saying, "There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep." THE SHEEP? I mean, was David rejected or rejected? Jesse politely suggests that David can't come because the routines are more important. Jesse was blind to see the prophetic because he was too busy with his work ethic.

Obviously, the prophet ignores all the suggestions and says, "Send and get him, for we will not sit down till he comes here." Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed DAVID among his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward.

The last sentence, "the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward," is the key to understanding everything about "My Soul Trusts in You."

We also need to understand that David had no idea that Samuel just anointed him king, and neither did he have the career aim of becoming king.

Still, yet, it was that from that day onwards, the steps of David began to be ordained and designed by the Spirit upon him. All pointing towards - being king. Everything he did and everywhere he went was the "journey that the anointing was taking him on."
