OUR GOD LAVISHES LOVE
I love how this passage begins with the word “look”. The love of God was never intended to be a mystery to us. It is all around us, in the dawning of new day, to the dancing of the stars in the twilight. It is in the laughing of our children, the crashing of waves along our coast, the unfolding of a flower.
Jesus came to reveal the mystery of the Father’s love but it was difficult, even for God’s chosen people, to recognise it. Many of the Jews missed the reality of Jesus because they couldn’t see God’s love poured out in the ordinariness of Jesus. It was unbelievable that the love of God could be expressed so ordinarily, yet so extravagantly.
They were wrong! The challenge for Jews 2000 years ago and for people today is to simply believe in the love of God. To “be” loved and live loved. It is easy for us to work for the love of God. It is not so easy be loved by God. To be His beloved. What could happen if we daily dared to believe in our beloved-ness to Him?
Reflection:
It is possible to suggest that the more God’s people accept the love of God in their own lives, the more others will recognise the love of God in their own. Today, bravely speak out “I am God’s beloved.” Celebrate that in your own unique way.
Prayer:
Father God, today we celebrate that you call us your own beloved children. We choose to be in that love today and we thank you for Your Son who demonstrated so magnificently the greatness of your love for us. Amen.

About this Plan
1 John is the first of three short letters written by the disciple John. 1 John is thought to have been written to the churches around Ephesus in around 90AD. In this short letter, we start to see and grasp the magnitude of God’s perfect character, and how much his love has radically been shown to us through Jesus. OUR GOD IS ____ ?
