OUR GOD CALLS US HIS CHILDREN
I love chocolate, lollies, ice cream, soft drink and cake! Do you? I often have to go on 30-day fasts from sugar, because I notice I’m not very good at just having one piece or a small slice. Sin can sometimes by bit of a temptation like my sugar eating.
Some of these verses are quite direct and to the point. For example, verse 4: “Anyone who indulges in sin lives in moral anarchy, for the definition of sin is breaking God’s law.” Sin is literally breaking God’s law, or missing His mark or standard. So why is sin a problem? Well, let’s look at the law we are breaking to understand more. Jesus gave us a new commandment in John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” When we look closely at “sin,” it is usually selfish, greedy, instant, indulgent and temporary. These things usually hurt us or the people around us, and often replace God as number 1 in our lives. But the good news, that as a new creation, in the finished work of Christ, sin has now power. The Bible even goes as far as to say that our sins are far removed from us as the east and the west, and that we are now co-heirs in the family of God. Wow! Sin where is your sting. When we realise who we are and whose we are, the pull of sin is lessened as we lean into the Spirit and new life God has given us as His son or daughter.
Reflection:
Am I giving too much power to the temptation of sin in my life? How can I turn away (repent) and live as a child of God?
Prayer:
Jesus, I thank you that I’m your child. I’m family! Holy Spirit help me to pursue you above all else.

About this Plan
1 John is the first of three short letters written by the disciple John. 1 John is thought to have been written to the churches around Ephesus in around 90AD. In this short letter, we start to see and grasp the magnitude of God’s perfect character, and how much his love has radically been shown to us through Jesus. OUR GOD IS ____ ?
