A Christian Mother's CreedSýnishorn
I will not kick and wound my children with my words.
As a mother, you have a spiritual covering over your children. The words you speak over them and your prayers are prophetic. It is easy to only think about cussing when one reads Ephesians 4:29. We do not realize that it includes the use of negative words, words that break the spirit and wound. This can be difficult when one’s child has a problem behavior or acts in ways that break a mothers’ heart. Being slow to speak and patience takes practice. God is faithful to help us when we ask for his help.
Magnify the good you see in your child and the behavior you desire. Say what you want your child to become instead of saying what you do not want your child to become. Replace “you are disobedient” with statements like: “I like it when you do what I ask you to do” or “It would be helpful if you listen and do ___”. It would take practice, consistency, and you can ask God for wisdom to say the right things. You do not want to undo your prayers with negative words and confessions.
Question for Reflection: Are there negative statements I need to replace with positive statements? Please write them down and replace them with positive statements.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for my child(ren). Teach me to speak life. Give me wisdom to speak the right thing at the right time. Help me to be disciplined with my tongue. Thank you for helping me. In Jesus name. Amen.
