Planning Like Nehemiah|Step 4
Develop Strategies and Tactics
For Nehemiah to rebuild the entire wall around Jerusalem in only 52 days, it took an effective strategy (overall, long-term plan), tactics (short-term, specific actions that support the strategy) and God’s favor.
There are many ways Nehemiah could have tackled this challenging project. However, a key strategy he used was to develop effective teams that could address the needed repairs.
Tactically, we learn that Nehemiah took the wall and broke it down into 41 sections. He doled these sections out to key teams who were used to working together and could leverage their location and experience.
At the same time, Nehemiah developed a strategy to overcome their enemies. Nehemiah 4:18 says, “As for the builders, each wore his sword girded at his side as he built, while the trumpeter stood near me.”
Effective business strategies supported by excellent tactics are critical for your business to succeed long term.
About this Plan
Most would agree that planning is an important process to be used in our workplaces, but one that is often condensed or sometimes ignored. This 7-part series will examine how Nehemiah harnessed the discipline of planning to successfully rebuild Jerusalem’s walls. His practical and wise seven-step process is one that we can use today.
