Wisdom Of The Teacher For College Students, Ch. 11

DAY 4 OF 5

These verses and the two that follow begin the summary of the whole matter! Light here represents life more than illumination of the darkness. So perhaps the Teacher would agree with the popular Old Dominion song, “Life is short, make it sweet”. Only the Teacher would say, “Life is sweet, and pleasant”.

If we are fortunate to live a long life, the Teacher reminds us to enjoy them all while we can. Verse 8 may be a reference to the view of the afterlife as previously covered that is bleak and without hope. Some believe that this verse is a reference to senility that often comes with old age. This view is preferred by many who hold to a brighter future of the afterlife for those who know Jesus as their Savior. In either case, the admonition is to enjoy this life while we can.
