Have you ever heard of doubting Thomas? He was one of Jesus’ twelve disciples. He wasn’t there when Jesus first appeared to his disciples after the resurrection. When the other disciples told Thomas that Jesus appeared to them, he didn’t believe them. He basically told them “I’ll believe it when I see it!” A week later, Jesus visited the disciples again and proved to Thomas that He was in-fact risen. Jesus then corrects Thomas, saying, “Stop doubting and believe.”

Do you have doubts? Maybe it’s about your future or the outcome of a situation you’re walking through. It can be hard to believe and hold onto hope when everything in front of you tells you something different.

Reading the passage about Thomas, it’s easy to skip on through and laugh at Thomas in his doubt - of course Jesus was risen! But if you were to put yourself in his sandals, Jesus showing up in a room with locked doors after being crucified and buried is actually pretty hard to wrap your head around. And here’s the best part: Jesus may have called out Thomas for his doubt, but he also made it a point to meet Thomas where he was. He sought Thomas out to prove that He is the risen Lord!

So what doubts do you have? What situations are you facing that make you feel hopeless or frustrated? Cast your cares on the Lord - He will, like He did with Thomas, meet you in the middle of your doubt and carry you through.

  • Bottom Line: Thomas doubted Jesus had risen, but Jesus met him in his doubt. Jesus is not afraid of your questions and doubts; He invites you to bring them to Him.
  • Response: Take your doubts to Jesus in prayer today, but instead of asking him to just take the weight, ask Him to reveal Himself to you.
