NT25 FASTIhe Atụ
Day 1: Matthew 1-10
Lorisa Miller, Founder + Senior Leader at UPPERROOM
There is no better investment of your time and attention than this decision to dive into the WORD of God. You can exercise, eat well, read five books a week, and still be without true life.
When you read the Scriptures, come to meet with HIM. Jesus Himself said we could search the Scriptures to find eternal life, yet still miss life altogether. When we read, we must read because we are coming to HIM: our fountain of living waters, the lover of our souls, the ONE through whom, by whom, and for whom all things exist.
Determine to engage with a needy spirit. Refuse to simply check it off your list. Open your heart, and ask Jesus Himself to do what He did for the disciples in Luke’s account:
“And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.”
(Luke 24:45 NKJV)
No one has to tell us to eat a meal when we’re hungry or drink water when we’re thirsty. Your soul is designed to eat and drink of God Himself.
What if we refused to settle for numbing or coping? Allow our soul’s hunger and thirst to thrust us to the feet of Jesus. Sit at His feet, cling to His every word. Eat Him, drink Him, enjoy Him. Delight ourselves in the richest of fare.
Pray with me:
Lord,
Thank You for putting this longing in me.
Thank You for Your zealous love for me.
I need You.
I desire You.
I am prone to distraction, but my heart longs for true food and true drink.
Holy Spirit, lead me as I read.
Be my pacer.
Reveal Jesus to me.
Jesus, lead me to the Father again.
I ache to know You more and more.
I yield my mind, heart, spirit, and will to You alone.
I love You.
