Week 4: The Importance of Wisdom and Understanding

The Source of Wisdom

Over the past three weeks, we have learned about God’s Word and the Bible. We discussed the purpose, story, and power of Scripture, and this week, we will dive into the wisdom we can find in God’s Word.

This month’s focus is to increase understanding, and it is essential to note that we can only increase understanding when we increase our intake of God’s Word. As Proverbs 2 says, the Lord grants wisdom! Wisdom solely comes from God, and without God’s wisdom, it is impossible to have understanding.

Do you ask “why” a lot when reading your Bible? Do you ask “why” a lot throughout your day? I know I sure do! We are curious beings with the blessing and ability to learn. God gave us the capacity for knowledge and understanding. We want to know. And since God is the Creator of everything (Genesis 1), He is the only One with the insight we need to answer our “why?”

While you may not receive an answer for every question you have (faith requires blind trust sometimes), you can be sure that God will open your eyes, heart, and mind to understand things that you once couldn’t understand. I once heard that “wisdom is the application of knowledge.” Therefore, as we read and study God’s Word, He will increase our knowledge and understanding and give us the wisdom needed to apply what we learn to our lives! As we go through this week, remember that God is the source of all wisdom!

Action Step: Pick one of your questions, and pray about it this week. Search God’s Word and see if God provides you the knowledge and wisdom to understand.
