Let the Church Bow Down: Encounter Christ as KingIhe Atụ
RESPONDING TO CHRIST’S KINGSHIP
Jesus is King.
How, then, should we respond?
Worship can be the only adequate response to a King so holy, sacrificial, and beautiful as ours. God is calling us to continually worship in response to the kingship of Jesus by seeing Him, submitting to Him, and serving Him.
We look to Jesus. He is the First and the Last, the One in whom our faith finds both its initiation and its culmination. Before we can relate to Jesus rightly, we must see Him rightly. If we aren’t careful, we may construct images of a false Jesus in our minds. We should always seek to see King Jesus more clearly by spending time with Him, discovering Him in the Scriptures, and cultivating intimacy with the Holy Spirit.
We say yes to Jesus. If Christ’s royal office is as glorious as the Scriptures we have explored express it to be, then the kingship of Jesus is both our greatest hope and our deepest warning. We should not refuse Him as He speaks. We should always seek to submit to Jesus by discerning His will and doing what He tells us through the Holy Spirit and Scripture.
We partner with Jesus’ work in the world. Our King is on a mission to reconcile creation to its Creator, and He invites us to join Him. We should always seek to serve Jesus by wisely stewarding our time, developing our spiritual gifts, answering our callings, loving our families and communities, advocating for and with the poor and oppressed, praying for our cities and nations, and allowing the Holy Spirit to reign without obstruction in our hearts and lives.
Jesus forever reigns. May we respond with reverent love and wholehearted devotion. May this be our declaration in response to who the enthroned Jesus is: “Let the Church bow down! All the earth, bow down! Universe, bow down before the King!”
