Courage - Standing Tall - Trusting God

As a teen, my bedroom was in the basement. It was a big basement and I was alone down there. You wouldn't believe how fast I navigated those stairs. Who knows what I thought would "get me", but I thought it! For sure. That carried over. As an adult, I lived alone in a residential tract home. Getting down that hall at night without lights was a large challenge for me. My heart would beat fast, my eyes would bug out, I'm sure. Basically, I was in a panic. In the first instance, I wasn't a follower of Christ. In the second, I was - a youth pastor no less. So, did this remain an issue over the next decades of my life? Nope.

  • Once I memorized Psalm 27:1 (above image), "The Lord is my light...whom shall I fear?", the Lord took away this dread. Amazing the power of the Word of God. What gives you the shakes? You can receive Courage from the Lord. Hide God's Word in your heart!
  • Courage is also needed when you have to wait for something to happen. Psalm 27:14 actually commands you to WAIT. Why? If we get anxious about something we want to happen and try to make it happen, there might be problems. Lasting Courage only comes from the Lord. "Wait For The Lord "is in this verse two times. There's a reason for that.
  • And, do NOT depend on your own gifts, and character traits to accomplish your goals. I've tried that. Not a good idea. "The Lord is my strength". He can be trusted. The end result is His Courage, His results. You'll be really glad you did. Psalm 28:7.
