Managing Marriage
Marriage is a beautiful thing, but mixed with work, kids (or teens), and endeavors, managing life, and marriage can sometimes seem unmanageable. Yet, there is hope! The daily demands of life and marriage can coexist. You just need a good marriage toolbox full of honor, prayer, and strategy.
I believe in order to manage marriage well, we need to look at it from a biblical and practical perspective. From a biblical perspective, as wives, we are called to be our husband’s helpers. The word “helper” is defined as one that helps. Pretty simple right. Well, let’s unpack it a little more through the written word. In the book of Genesis, God says, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is right for him.”
As married women, when we help our husbands and honor them as one of our top priorities, there is peace in the home. In other words, when we tend to his needs or requests such as helping him with a task, cooking a special meal, or simply listening to him talk about his day - that’s making him a priority. It can also be received as love in action.
The wisdom found in the book of Proverbs also helps us understand this point even further when it reads, “Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.” When we help our husbands, their lives are enriched. And of course, we want to be women who can be trusted in every way, including with the finances and home responsibilities.
Managing marriage can be done well, especially when we pray. There is so much power in prayer. The Bible tells us in the book of James, “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” When we pray for our husbands, it has the power to change things for the better. I know this from experience. Prayer allows us to go to the One who can help us. So, pray for your husband, but also don’t forget to pray for yourself as his wife.
Having a good marriage takes honor, prayer, and strategy. Yep! A good strategy for managing your marriage well could consist of planning regular date nights, attending marriage conferences, reading marital books, relaxing together, and enjoying one another’s company. Again, stewarding what God has given us takes prayer, honor, and strategy. So let’s steward our marriages, well.
