Living in Contentment

Now that we know that our contentment, our joy, will only be complete in Jesus, we can walk through this life. Maybe we can ask ourselves, "Do I know how to be content when…?" You fill in the blank; let me give you a few examples. Do I know how to be content when my prom and my graduation are canceled? Do I know how to be content when I have to wear a mask? When I don’t look as good as I did two months ago? When the world seems to be going crazy? When I haven’t had enough social contact if I am an extrovert? When church isn’t happening as usual? Whatever it is, can I be content?

It is hard for us to be content when we have gotten used to a lot and now it has been pulled back to a little. What Paul is teaching us here is that contentment has come in Jesus Christ—from His living in our heart. Are you content right where you are?

This is what Paul has been walking us through: first, we learn that in Christ we can be content in all things and in whatever circumstances. Then, Paul says that we can do all things in Christ. And finally, Paul says that God has provided him all that he needs. That is a true place of contentment.

So, I ask you this: Are you content in Jesus? I hope so.

We will never be completely content until we get to heaven and see Jesus face to face, but we can walk a step closer to Him today. Life is not like it was before, but God is like He was yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), so we can trust in Christ and find contentment. If you are thinking, “Oh, I just want this back and I want that back,” so do I, but first we need to make sure Jesus is the One who makes our heart content.

Do you know Christ as your Savior? Have you trusted Jesus? Have you placed your faith in Him so that He may forgive your sins, and dwell inside of you? When we surrender to Him, we walk in peace, full of the contentment that we know is the Lord at work. Go ahead and talk to Him. Get Him to be the content and the contentment of your heart.

Content in Christ

When life all around us is turning into a whirlwind of confusion, our hearts may get caught into yearning for how things used to be, or for the moment this will come to an end. Jesus has brought into our hearts with Himself everything we need. It is time for us to lift up our eyes and discover that having Him as the content of our lives brings true contentment.
