It is important for God’s children to spend time with Him daily through prayer and His Word. Prayer is how we communicate with our heavenly Father. He has given us complete access to His throne and we can come to Him anytime and anywhere. The Bible is God’s Living and Active Word. It is the main way that God communicates with His people. From it, we learn His heart, His ways, and we grow in our knowledge of who God is and who we are in Him.
To learn to pray and spend time in God’s Word, we will use two acronyms.
Prayer
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”- Philippians 4:6-7
T. Thanksgiving - Giving thanks to God for what He has and is doing in your life
A. Adoration - Praising God for who He is
C. Confession - Confessing sin and asking God for grace to repent from sin
S. Supplication - Make your requests known to God i.e. needs, strength, guidance, cares etc.
Quiet Time
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11
Before you begin, ask God to prepare your heart and give you understanding of what you read.
Read the scripture passage for that day and do the following things.
S. Scripture - Write the verse that stood out to you during your time in the Word
O. Observation - What is the verse saying? What does the passage mean to you?
A. Application - How can you apply this verse to your life today?
P. Prayer - Ask God to use this verse to renew your mind and obey what it says.
“Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away. O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the crannies of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.” – Song of Solomon 2:13-14
