Seek Me
A few years ago I worked for Teen Challenge in Brazil and I worked with the director of the project who became a close friend. He came over from Brazil to visit me and he is one of those Christian friends who seems to hear from God. He gets words, pictures, he knows his bible, when he talks his words have weight to them, conviction and I have seen time and time again the spirit of God throughout his life. Maybe you have a friend like that too.
He arrived at my house late in the evening after a really long flight from Sao Paulo and hours on the motorway to get back to my house. Off he went to bed and I said ‘Have a lay in mate, see you about 10ish.’
That night, I woke up at 4:45am and needed a drink. I tip-toed downstairs and to my surprise and even horror, I found him awake, bible open, head bowed and praying, seeking Jesus, at 4:45am in the morning!
I am not suggesting you get sleep deprivation and have to be up praying at 4:45am for it to count. For my friend, this was his best awake time, he used it to seek Jesus.
What I have found is that loving Jesus, and seeking Jesus are two different things.
Knowing about Jesus, loving the stories of teaching or his teaching, or being able to quote the bible is not the same as having a deep, personal relationship with Jesus that is fed daily and alive through secret prayer.
Just you and him.
This is Jesus in first place, your first love. He has your heart, your devotion, he has your waking thoughts and your sleeping ones. You best awake time.
God spoke through the prophet Jeremiah to encourage the exiles, and I think God’s heart is still the same in that; "You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart"Jeremiah 29:13
Devotional Prayer
I want to encourage you today.
Set your heart today, tune in your heart to seek Jesus.
He is there, will meet you and invites you closer.
Tomorrow we will think a bit about the danger of getting used to life without prayer.
