Trust and Obey
When did Jesus speak to you?
In this Bible passage and in The Chosen, Jesus asks Simon Peter to cast the net one more time. Peter still counters, "But Lord, we worked all night and caught nothing."
Peter actually has no confidence in what Jesus is asking here. Not surprisingly, he doesn't know Jesus yet. Except from the stories he hears from his friends and colleagues.
His friends, however, encourage him: Just trust Jesus. We have already heard so much about Him. In the end, Peter does as he is asked.
The payoff is huge. They have to help bring in the huge catch with the crew of another boat. In The Chosen, this even earns Peter freedom. He can pay off his debt. And is free to go after Jesus.
Jesus wants to give you freedom, too. When has Jesus asked something of you? How did you deal with it? Did you respond immediately or was there also regular doubt on your part? Do I have to do this? Do I know Jesus as He is? Is He really as I have heard from friends? Can Jesus really be trusted?
When you read this story and watch The Chosen, I don't think you can conclude otherwise!
God is faithful. He knows what we need. He is eager to give. Will you learn to trust Him in that and dare to ask for what you need?
Do you dare to do what Jesus asks of you? We want to challenge you to listen to Him and be obedient. Take steps to trust that Jesus hears and knows exactly what you need at this moment. Maybe then freedom will arise for you, too.
Questions to think about:
- In what area do you need to obey Jesus?
- Do you trust Jesus?
- How do you manage to increase your trust in Jesus?
- What step in obedience can you take today?
Prayer:
Lord, will You help me to trust in You more and more? So that I can follow You in all obedience. Amen.
