Destruction: A Study in 2 Kings

Dan 6 od 24

What does it say?

Elisha caused an ax head to float. To reassure his servant, Elisha prayed God would reveal the protecting presence of His spiritual army.

What does it mean?

Aram’s army was powerful, but their king didn’t understand defeat from God’s point of view. Elisha knew he was not alone, yet for the benefit of his servant, God openly displayed the armies of the Lord. God’s overwhelming presence on the scene didn’t increase but appeared for the servant’s peace of mind. Through the miraculous events of this passage, it became obvious to the king of Aram that he was no match for Israel’s God.

How should I respond?

Trusting Jesus by faith places you into a unique relationship. You are never alone. You are protected constantly by the power and victorious providence of God. This protection does not mean bad things will never happen to you, but it does mean God is with you in every situation, supplying the grace you need. Take a moment to reflect on your current circumstances. How has God already revealed His presence by working on your behalf? How does believing you are protected give you peace of mind to face this challenge?

Destruction: A Study in 2 Kings

The idolatry and sinfulness of Israel and Judah lead to their expulsion from the land - a final ignominy in a long history of unfaithfulness. Yet even in exile, God was preserving his people and the line of David for a future coming King, whose reign would know no end.
