“The Day Finally Arrives”
The great and memorable day had arrived. My family had gone ahead of me a few days earlier, while I stayed on the farm. I needed to be on my own for a while. That day I wept, I cried, I laughed and I sighed. The biggest test of my life was about to happen and there was no guarantee that anyone would show up.
We were supposed to start at 12 noon but, unbeknownst to me, they would only start at 2:00 pm because there were still so many people yet to arrive. So they kept delaying my pick-up time and, of course, the devil persisted in saying to me, “Nobody is coming. There are no crowds there, and that is why they are not coming to fetch you.”
Eventually at 1:30 pm they came to collect me in a helicopter. At that moment I felt a release on my spirit. They were so jubilant and they told me that there were still tens of thousands of people coming onto the field. After the helicopter had touched down at the back of the stage, we stepped out onto the platform and I looked out over the crowd. I can’t remember if I wept openly because I was in such a state of absolute euphoria and happiness at the time. I looked out on the biggest crowd I’d ever seen in my entire life, patiently sitting in the sun – waiting
I preached about the importance of prayer and gave the people an opportunity to pray. For five solid minutes they stood there praying individually, besieging the God of Israel to bring peace and repentance to the nation of South Africa. I will never forget it. It sounded like a great hive of bees buzzing. Some were speaking quietly, some were shouting, some stood and some knelt before God. It was a God moment.
I believe that the prayer meeting had a massive impact not only on South Africa, but also on the African continent.
I cannot wait to see what God is going to do next through His ordinary people who choose to do two things: to be obedient and to be faithful.
