Men of Selfless Service

DAY 6 OF 7

Serving as Worship

When you think of worship, what comes to mind?

For most people, it’s all music-oriented, which we do by singing songs and hymns to God in church or humming along to Christian tunes in our cars or earbuds.

But in Romans 12:1-2, Paul reminds us that worship goes far beyond songs. True worship is offering our entire lives to God, including how we serve others.

Paul begins with a powerful appeal. In light of God’s mercy, which includes His saving grace, forgiveness, and love, we are called to respond by presenting ourselves to God as what he calls “living sacrifices.”

This means surrendering every part of our lives to Him—physically, mentally, and spiritually—using the time, talents, and energy that He has given us.

When we serve others, whether by comforting a grieving friend, volunteering at church, or helping a neighbor, we offer a sacrifice of worship that pleases God.

But serving as worship requires more than action. It requires a transformed mind. Paul continues in verse 2, urging us not to conform “to the patterns of this world” but to be renewed by the Holy Spirit through reading Scripture, thereby helping us better discern God’s will for us.

The world’s philosophies and thought patterns run counter to those of the Kingdom of God. They often tell us to prioritize ourselves, seek recognition, or measure success by how much we accomplish.

On the other hand, a transformed mind sees service in an entirely different way. When our minds are renewed, we begin to see helping others as an opportunity to glorify God. We serve not out of obligation but out of gratitude for all He has done for us.

This perspective changes how we approach even the most mundane tasks. Washing dishes for your family, helping a coworker with a project, or mentoring a younger believer becomes an act of worship when done with a heart surrendered to Christ.

Let today’s devotional challenge you to examine your heart and mind. Are you serving with a joyful, worshipful spirit, or have you allowed worldly patterns to creep in? Ask God to renew your mind so that every act of service becomes an offering of worship to Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want my life to be a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to You. Transform my mind so that I am a man who sees service not as a burden but as an act of worship. Teach me to serve with joy, gratitude, and love, glorifying You in all I do. Amen.

Reflection: How can you present your acts of service as worship to God? In what ways can you allow God to transform your mind to serve Him more wholeheartedly?

About this Plan

Men of Selfless Service

Over this week of devotionals, we will explore what it means to be men who live out the Bible’s call to selflessness and service. In a world that often glorifies self-promotion and personal comfort, Christ commands us to embrace a radically different way of life—one that looks outward, values others above ourselves, and reflects His heart for the broken and the forgotten.
