Men of Selfless Service

DAY 2 OF 7

Seeing Jesus in "The Least of These"

In Matthew 25, Jesus shares a sobering preview of Judgment Day where He, as Judge and King, separates the “sheep” from the “goats.”

The distinction is striking: Christ's followers, represented as “sheep,” served others selflessly, while unbelievers, symbolized by “goats,” overlooked opportunities to help.

Jesus declares that acts of kindness—feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned—are not just moral good deeds; they are acts of service and love done as if they were done directly to Him.

This challenges us to see people differently. When we encounter someone in need, do we see them as an inconvenience to us or as a burden to society, or do we recognize them as an opportunity to serve Christ Himself?

Jesus’ words remind us that our faith must extend beyond the walls of our churches and the comfort of our routines. Serving the “least of these” is not optional for believers. It is the evidence of a heart that has been transformed by trusting in Jesus for salvation.

All this week, I urge you to throw away your preconceived ideas about the less fortunate. Consider the people in your life who might be overlooked—the homeless man on the street, the single mother struggling to provide for her children, or the coworker facing quiet despair. Help them, spend time with them, and feed them. You can even contact your church and inquire about how you and fellow churchgoers can visit folks in hospitals, nursing homes, and inmates in prisons.

Every one of these souls is precious to the Lord. Therefore, every interaction is a chance to love Jesus by loving others.

When we lay aside our self-focus and choose to see Christ Himself in “the least,” we fulfill God’s call to live a faith that is active and alive. Jesus asks for men willing to care for the broken, knowing that in doing so, we are truly serving Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, open my eyes to see Your Son, Jesus Christ, in those who are hurting, hungry, and in need. Forgive me for the times I have ignored opportunities to serve. Teach me to love as You love and to act as Your hands and feet in this world. May I reflect Your heart in every interaction today. Amen.

Reflection: Who are the people in your life who you might run across that represent “the least of these”? How can you take one step today to serve them in Jesus’ Name?

About this Plan

Men of Selfless Service

Over this week of devotionals, we will explore what it means to be men who live out the Bible’s call to selflessness and service. In a world that often glorifies self-promotion and personal comfort, Christ commands us to embrace a radically different way of life—one that looks outward, values others above ourselves, and reflects His heart for the broken and the forgotten.
