The Rebuild: Matthew 5-7

DAY 35 OF 39

As a child, did you intentionally ask your parents for something when they were in a good mood or maybe when you were behaving well, hoping either strategy would gain a positive response? Do we sometimes come to God in a similar way with our requests?

Are we hesitant when we feel distant because of sin? Do we wait for a “better” time? In Matthew 7:7-8, Jesus encourages us to continually come to the Father with our requests with the assurance that He is eager to hear and respond. Anywhere, anytime, independent of how we feel.

Furthermore, verses 9-11 point out that even as sinful earthly fathers willingly give their children what is good and not harmful. How much more is the Holy, Sovereign and perfect Father in heaven willing to give what’s best to His children?

The good gifts God gives are always what His children require the most and, according to Luke 11:13, the best gift is the Holy Spirit. As those redeemed in Christ, let us remember today and always that the “wisdom of the Holy Spirit” is the best gift to request.

Today, ponder this: Are there currently things are you afraid that God would not respond to so you haven't asked Him? Boldly ask for them now in prayer, knowing that God will respond with what is best for you.

About this Plan

The Rebuild: Matthew 5-7

“You have heard it said…” In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus begins to rebuild and reform our understanding of life in His Kingdom. In Matthew 5-7, He challenges the religious traditions of His day and the competing worldviews of our own. His words are a call to transformation—a new way to live under His reign. As Jesus lays the foundation for His Kingdom, we are invited to tear down false beliefs and build our lives on His truth.
