Radiant YTH Advent

DAY 1 OF 23

Hope can be defined as: a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. You hope you make a good grade. You hope you’ll get into a certain college. You hope that person will go on a date with you. You hope your post will go viral. You hope your acne will go away. We hope for a lot of things.

What happens when what you hope for doesn’t work out? If you’re being honest, can you take the disappointment in stride? Or do you let discouragement win? Do you get mad at God for not giving you what you want?

It’s so easy to place our hope into our circumstances. But here’s the thing - hope isn’t meant to be placed in circumstances, it’s meant to be placed in God. The world tells us to chase after many things and put our hope in them - things like money, success, social status. But those things are all temporary and the Bible teaches us that our focus should be on God - His character, His Word filled with promises for us, eternity with Him, things that are lasting and eternal.

When we place our hope in God, we can have a confident expectation that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We can have assurance that His plans for your life are good. You can have hope that, no matter the circumstance, when we put our trust in God, He can do immeasurably more than you can ask, think, or imagine.

  • Bottom Line: God’s promise of hope is abundant and overflowing. Yet, we often don’t feel it. When we trust in Him, He fills us with His hope, even when life feels uncertain.
  • Response: Take a moment today and pray for God to fill you with hope, even when things are tough.
