DAY 19 OF 21

Fanning the Flame: The Gift of God
Maiya Levine

In November 2023, I was asked to speak at my youth group panel, discussing Jesus and how He moved our lives through open-ended questions and answers. I was so excited about the door Jesus opened with this opportunity, but I couldn’t shake the fear of speaking on stage in front of my peers.

Just as Paul refers to Timothy in his letter, I needed to be bold, lacking the courage and confidence to speak to many people boldly. I reminded myself of God’s will and the courage He provides us. Despite feeling slightly nervous, I spoke and impacted someone more than expected. Later that night, I got a message saying that my words had inspired someone and they wanted to grow their relationship with the Lord. If I had not leaned into the power God gives us through our spirit, I could not have been obedient to His plan.

In this passage, Paul, while in prison, writes to Timothy to encourage him to be courageous and accept leadership. He emphasizes the spirit God gives us: power, love, and a sound mind, not fear.

God is intentional in the gifts He bestows upon each of us. He wants us to lean into Him wholly and those gifts to serve Him and the gospel of Christ. We must “fan the flame” of the gift of the Holy Spirit within us to continue burning bright for Christ.

It’s easy to live in fear and get comfortable when we face trials in school, work, and relationships. God calls us to step out of fear, as fear does not come from the Lord. Instead, He desires our Spirit to reflect His character, full of love, strength, and courage.

Today, do you have a spirit of courage in you? How can you take confidence in your identity in Christ? Remember how God has called you to follow Him boldly throughout your day. Be confident, knowing you can do as Christ calls because of the Spirit He has bestowed upon you.

About this Plan

All In

“New Year, New Me” is only accurate if something is different about you. This devotional is meant to challenge you to fully commit to Christ, your actions, hearts, and minds. This will show you the importance of living authentically for Jesus by fully engaging, not having one foot in and one foot out of your faith. We pray that through this, you will make bold choices, trust God’s plan, and make your relationship with Christ above everything else. Are you ready? Let’s go All In!
