Expect the Unexpected

DAY 2 OF 10

The Lord’s Unexpected Plans

Has God given you an idea that seems crazy, but you just can’t shake it off?

It was at the end of a sports training. We sat and listened to students sharing their future ministry plans. The first few individuals presented plans that were logical and motivating – they made a lot of sense. Then a tall man, tall enough to play professional basketball, stood and explained that he planned to take the sport opportunity to reach, disciple, and plant churches with very short people…pygmies! Most of us smiled and laughed. This must be a joke! But he was serious; this was how God’s Spirit was leading him. We all felt joy as he was willing to do something that seemed improbable, even outlandish, for God.

In his part of the world, pygmy people groups spread across several countries. He found partners who helped with balls and then found coaches and volunteers. Sports clinics took place in eight villages, with a significant number indicating a faith decision. Soon large numbers of pygmies were learning new sports skills and having competitions. Large numbers of children took part in games and sport for kids in all the villages. The local mayor presided at the opening and closing ceremonies for the ten days of competition.

Out of these strategies, many began to plant churches for their people.

I have tried to use this whole experience to remember the Lord asks some of us to do what humanly may not seem logical. At times it might even sound a little crazy!

Scripture to ponder:

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Key Lesson: When God’s Spirit leads you, follow. New ground is broken as people try new things. These plans will often defy logic.
