Expect the Unexpected

DAY 4 OF 10

Wow, a National Team Player!

Have you ever been let down by someone after a positive first impression?

If possible, it is wise to include sportspersons around the table when discussing how to serve them. Sportspersons were included in a gathering of forty people from a dozen countries. This was a unique opportunity to learn between countries, meet peers from other countries, and develop ongoing ways to serve one another.

A player on the national team of an unexpected country was recommended just before we gathered. It was very unusual to have a key sportsperson from this country. He had a unique, outgoing, and friendly personality. His faith story in sport was an inspiration to all. He was also a very gifted communicator.

At the time, there wasn’t a search engine to learn more about his sports heroics. It took a while to discover that he wasn’t a top player; in fact, he had never even played the sport! His whole story was a fraud. It was sad to learn he was lying, but valuable time was also lost as forty people listened at length to all his untruths.

Scripture to ponder:

1 Peter 3:10

Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.

Key Lesson: Be careful that you don’t exaggerate the truth. When someone’s story seems too good to be true, it often is. Take the time to double-check.
