Let’s Go: A 5-Day Family Devotional

DAY 4 OF 5

God Points Us toward Jesus

If you read the Old Testament, you might find yourself thinking, “This story is a mess.” At times, you might even wonder, “Where is God in all of this?” Well, all throughout the Old Testament, God is there. God is the ultimate transformer, so He transformed many people through His power prior to sending Jesus. But God also knew that eventually it would be time to offer new life and freedom to everyone.

God gave lots of different people messages about the coming Messiah. These people are called “prophets.” A true prophet is someone who gets messages from God and shares them with God’s people. God says to them to take the message of truth and go share it!

Did you know that Jesus fulfilled at least 300 prophecies about Himself from the Old Testament? So cool!

Just like God pointed people toward Jesus thousands of years ago, He is pointing you and me to Jesus today. He does this through the words in the Bible, of course, but He also does this through the Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit is at work in the world to redirect us toward the things of God.

We mentioned earlier that God also has an enemy. The same devil that tempted Adam and Eve in the garden is slithering throughout our world today. We don’t need to fear him, though, because God is way bigger and more powerful. But it’s still important to remember that the enemy is there.

When a thought comes into your mind, pay attention. Does it sound more like the voice of an enemy who wants to destroy things, or does it sound like the voice of God, who brings fullness and life? Listen closely for God’s voice and look for Jesus as you go about your day today.
