5 Days to a New Reality of Trust, Connection, and Authenticity With God

DAY 4 OF 5

No Filter

King David expresses the range of the human experience in the Psalms. We get an insight into the complexity and the depths of his faith. Sometimes, the ups and downs happen within a few lines of each other. It might seem like a bit of a rollercoaster… but then again, that’s life.

Have you ever had a thought you were terrified to speak out loud? That was how I felt when we wrote verses of my song “No Filter.” I had never admitted my doubts out loud to another person, let alone put them in a song for anyone to hear.

David shows us through the Psalms over and over again, that you can both confess doubt and profess faith. The key is honesty. God already knows our hearts, but often He only enters the rooms we let him in to. That’s why honesty is worth it. We don’t need to hide anything from God. Brutal honesty exposes the places of our heart where we lack trust. It’s hard work. It’s holy work.

Just like we should not be ashamed to shout His goodness from the rooftops, we should also be open about the times when we are struggling to believe.

Jesus invites His disciples to follow the path that leads to life. Sounds like a no-brainer, right? But He also says that is the narrow way. It’s far easier to talk it than to walk it. I think honesty is part of that narrow way.

PRAYER

Lord, give us the courage to cry out to you. Both in moments of triumph and trial, in celebration or sadness, in faith or in doubt. Help us remember that we are Your children and You hear us when we cry out. Amen.
