Lead Or Be Lunch: The Power Of Earning Influence

DAY 5 OF 10

When I was younger in my career and still working for my father, the one thing I was the most afraid of was letting go of my lifeline and starting my own business. At the time, I was in a position that was stable and made great money. I was presented with the decision to stay right where I was or I could venture out in to something unknown where my dream lived. At the time, everything in my life was laid out before me. I was in a sturdy place, a secure place, both personally and professionally yet here I was drowning in uncertainty over what to do. I could choose the option that perfectly laid out my future or I could venture off down the road less traveled and work towards my goal with an unknown outcome. I chose the latter and the world opened up to me. Everything was an adventure but I do not mean that in the sense that everything was suddenly perfect. I had to fail, over and over again, to find myself. To find my dream realized. I had gone from experiencing consistent success and financial security to road blocks, unexpected challenges and more failures than I can list. In fact, if I recounted to you in detail each of the times I experienced failure, the list would likely end up longer than this plan allows.

The important thing I would like for you to take away from this story however, is not that your goals shouldn't scare you (if they didn't scare you then the outcome must not be extraordinary but more on that later!), but that fear of the outcome is necessary and indicative of the challenge laid out before you. Overcoming that fear is not only required but is actually much easier to face than you imagined. All you have to do is get off the bench and face what scares you the most head on. Your persistence in your endeavors is the only thing you need to hold on to in order to get yourself back up every time failure tries to take you down.

Do your goals scare you? If not, is it due to a lack of fear or possibly because you've settled on easily attainable goals? If it's the latter, re-imagine your goals and aim much higher! God wants great things for you; don't settle for mediocrity.

About this Plan

Lead Or Be Lunch: The Power Of Earning Influence

This plan is based on David Villa’s upcoming book “Lead or Be Lunch” which explains the power of earning influence. Some leaders may force their influence upon others, but true leaders understand you must earn influence. As a Christian, God wants us to influence the masses in ways that helps us lead others to Him. Will you open yourself up and become the leader God designed you to be?
