Sacrament Of Confirmation

DAY 6 OF 9

Knowledge

“The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit bestowed upon Christians are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.” (CCC1845)

Knowledge comes from God and from thinking about God.  It is deeply connected to meditation.  “Meditation is a prayerful quest engaging thought, imagination, emotion, and desire.” (CCC2723)  Our gift of understanding prompts us to ask the why and how questions of the Christian life and to form answers, whilst recognising that our answers are only ever partial, just a glimpse of a bigger, fuller truth and revelation.

The Church encourages us to grow in knowledge by meditating on the scriptures, and other holy books, “But a method is only a guide; the important thing is to advance, with the Holy Spirit, along the one way of prayer: Christ Jesus.” (CCC2707)  It is Christ who is the source of knowledge and also the object and focus of it.  To know Christ is the desire of the disciple, to be fully like him, to be fully united with him.

The gift of knowledge enables us to truly think about God, about God’s revelation, to explore the mysteries of our faith and to recognise that there is always more to learn.

Pray today for a greater outpouring of knowledge.  Perhaps take some time to really meditate on God’s word.
