ADVENTure: The Loud, Noisy, Roaring, Life Changing, Not So Silent Night

DAY 11 OF 25

The Adventure:

Do you like music? I’m guessing you said yes. Not many people hate music. Maybe you don’t like certain kinds of music. Maybe you don’t like what’s on the radio, or you don’t like country, or maybe you don’t even like Christmas music… I personally love music and I love music with good lyrics. Lyrics that make you think and lyrics that make you want to listen to the song over and over again. Sometimes a song can be ruined by one sentence in a song being boring, not making sense, or being wrong. Some worship songs can not actually say who God really is or not what the Bible really says.

There’s a very popular worship song that has a lyric talking about God that says, “You have no rival.” Now the first time I heard this song I thought that’s wrong, God does have a rival. Some people actually call him the enemy. There is a real enemy out there his name is Satan and he is the devil. He wants to steal, kill, and destroy where God wants to bring us life. So when I heard this song I thought God does have a rival it’s the devil. But what the song is actually saying is what Isaiah 9:6 is saying, God is so mighty He has no rival and He has no competition.

Let’s think small first. Let’s say you are on a baseball or softball team and there’s no competition because in every game you score more runs than the other team. And not just a few more runs but like 20 more runs. There’s no competition there’s no rival because no one even comes close to how good your team is. The same is true for God. God is so mighty, so strong, so in charge that no one even comes close to Him. He is a mighty God who cannot be beaten. In fact, the one time that it looked like the enemy won was when Jesus died on the cross. The Son Of God died it looked like darkness had won. But then three days later the enemy suffered his worst defeat when Jesus rose from the dead.

Nothing can compete with or stop God. Not death, not sin, nothing. It doesn’t mean things won’t hurt us in this life but it does mean that God is bigger than anything we could ever face.

The Destination:

Remember Isaiah is talking about Jesus in this verse. So next time you see a picture or a figurine of baby Jesus who looks meek and mild, remember that is Mighty God. He is stronger and bigger than anything ever. This Christmas look at Jesus differently because He is so powerful and so in charge.
