"Singleness Isn't a Swear Word"

There are a few things that every human being has in common, and one of those is that we are all searching for meaning in our lives. We all want to feel loved, valued, and complete. Another lie that the world has told us is that we can find this fulfilment in the things of the world. We are encouraged to find our value in other people, or in all kinds of things, whether it be alcohol or sex. But the Bible tells us that there is something far greater that can give us ultimate fulfilment – a relationship with God himself.

Today’s passage says that in God we have received everything we need to live a godly life. There are seasons in life when it seems like everyone else is meeting their other half, dating, and falling in love. We may be tempted to start worrying about why we haven’t found anyone yet. 

But even though the world may be pressuring you to find a girlfriend or boyfriend to be ‘complete,’ let’s make something really clear: there is nothing wrong with being single. The Bible tells us that each of us was created by God for a relationship with him, and that in him we do not lack anything. You are not incomplete if you do not have a girlfriend or boyfriend – in Christ you have everything you need!

Our number one priority is to focus on our relationship with God and the person that we are becoming. Guys, don’t be a guy who needs a girl, focus on being a guy that a girl needs. If you had a daughter or a sister, how would you want her to be treated? And, girls, don’t be the girl who needs a guy, focus on being the girl that a guy needs. If we are all aiming to love and respect each other, seeing everyone we meet as a son and daughter of God, we will have healthier and stronger relationships and we will be set up to win in all of our relationships with others.

There is purpose in every season, and we need to cling to the promises of God, that he is always with us, that he will never leave us or forsake us, and that he promises to provide for all our needs.
