Promises for the Journey

DAY 8 OF 8

Your story ends well

Part of what makes a movie great is the ending. Have you ever watched a movie that was superb but then had a subpar ending? Did that change your opinion of the movie? Many times, it leaves you feeling unsatisfied, wondering how they could write such a fantastic movie but mess it all up at the end. You end up walking away, saying the movie was wonderful, but the ending left a lot to be desired.

Thankfully, Christ did not design your life in this fashion. He has a fantastic ending in store for you. In this life, there will be bumps and bruises along the way, but the end of your story will not leave you unsatisfied. It will leave you overjoyed. Here are two reasons your story ends well.

Reason #1 - God works everything for your good.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

God is taking every situation you experience in life and working them all for your good. This is one of the most incredible promises in scripture because of that magic word again…all. Like I said on day 2, all means all.

This means every win, every loss, every success, every failure, every right choice, and even every wrong choice. He takes it all and works it for your good. He is crafting an ending to your situation that will be ridiculously good.

However, a second ending to your story is even better than the ending in this life, which brings us to the second reason.

Reason #2 - Your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life

Revelation 21:1-4 - Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelation 21:27 - Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

This is the ultimate end of your story, and there is substantial reason to rejoice. Because you are in Christ, he has secured your home in heaven forever. Regardless of how difficult this life may get, you can know for certain your story will end well. Paul said it best.

Romans 8:18 - I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

God has set you up to win, not just in this life; that’s the small win. He has set you up to win for eternity. That’s the real win. No matter what chapter you are in, in the story of your life, God will finish the work he started in you and complete it with a truly great ending.

Jude 1:24-25 - To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Affirmation - I am certain that God, who began the good work within me, will continue his work until he finally finishes it on the day when Christ Jesus returns. He started my story, and he will finish it well.
