Jehosheba
Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to do what was right, even though it was hard? Did it involve family? This is precisely where Jehosheba found herself.
"When Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs." 2 Kings 11:1
When Jehosheba, the sister of Ahaziah, realized the impending fate of the royal heirs, she took Joash, son of Ahaziah, and kept him from being murdered. She brought him into the temple, where God lived, and hid him for six years until it was time to reveal him.
Jehosheba did what was right, though it undoubtedly jeopardized her safety. Our instinct is likely to cheer her on! After all, she saved her baby nephew. What she did was so much more important, though, because Joash became part of the lineage of Christ, through the Davidic line. The Lord promised the house of David would rule over Israel forever. As Athaliah tried to put an end to the fulfillment of this prophecy, Jehosheba did the right thing. Her actions played a vital role in the plan the Lord had established years prior.
1. How do you respond when you are faced with something complicated, yet it’s clearly the right thing to do?
Prayer: Lord, help me to do what is right in Your eyes.
