Far and Near

DAY 1 OF 5

In Psalm 139, David dedicated the entire Psalm to talking about God’s omniscience and omnipresence—God knows everything, and God is everywhere.

The first verse caught my attention as it spoke of how God has searched us and knows us. The definition of the word ‘search’ is to look somewhere carefully to find something. So, I asked a burning question: what is it that God is trying to find?

Then, I look at the second part of this verse where it says, He has known me. In this case, we know that the definition of 'know' is to understand. What I can interpret here is that God carefully looks into our hearts to find understanding for our hurts, joys, strengths, weaknesses, and everything else that makes us tick.

So, we aren’t just dealing with a God who aimlessly loves us. No, we are in a relationship with a God who takes the time to dig into our hearts and understand the emotions and conflicts that lie within.

He looks at the rubble and examines every piece, looking at the sharp and blunt edges, understanding every single corner. And after the digging and examining are done, His love remains unchanged. He loved you before He searched you, and He loves you after He understood you.

PRAYER

Lord, I read in Psalms 139  that you know all the things that cross my mind: the good, the bad, and the ugly. It is hard to understand why you love me. I make mistakes, sometimes the same ones, over and over again. There are days where I want to hide from you. But today, I am taking the first step to come back to you, and I pray that you will help me receive and accept your love for me.

About this Plan

Far and Near

Far and Near is a devotion for those of us who stumble through this life, mistake after mistake, and still struggle to reconcile the love God has for us. This devotion is a reminder that you may feel far away and disconnected from Him, but you are closer than you can ever imagine.
