DAY 1 OF 20

So when's the last time you got a little mad and said something, um, regrettable? We've all done it. Most of the time, we're pretty quick to get mad and say what's on our mind, but we're not usually very quick to listen to what other people have to say. Instead of listening to others, we're consumed with our own lives, thoughts, wants, worries, and insecurities. Instead of being careful with our words, we say things that cause hurt and pain. And instead of managing our emotions, we let our feelings of defensiveness, frustration, and anger control how we treat people.

But in the Bible, a guy named James gives us some advice on how to love others more as Jesus would. It might seem simple, but if you actually do it, it will make a radical difference in your relationship with others and your relationship with God. Here it is: radical people listen more than they speak.

When have you found it difficult to slow down and listen before thinking of how you'll respond to someone?

About this Plan

Rad

Jesus had a lot to say about love, but not everyone loved him. Instead, Jesus’ opponents hated him, attacked him, and saw him as extreme — a radical. And they had a point! The things Jesus taught about loving God and others challenged the status quo. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll look at four ways Jesus invites us to love others according to his revolutionary example.
