SoulSister: Renewing Your Soul With the Word of Godનમૂનો
My Brokenness Prayer
One day when I started singing the four words, “Thy will be done,” I felt my spirit come alive. My true heart’s desire is that His will be done in my life more than anything. As I sang those words, I began to hear, “I am His and he is mine. He has saved me and called me by name. No matter how hot this fire may seem, I’m not going to get burned. No matter how dry this desert may seem, he will give me water in the dry place. He has created me and made me for such a time as this. As long as I continue to pray, ‘thy will be done,’ over my life, then I’m going to be okay.”
The scriptures from Isaiah 43:1-3 became a prayer of desperation and a place of brokenness. I had tried all that I could do. I toiled, I worked, I was exhausted and just needed God to have his way. That’s where I was. I didn’t know I was toiling or working until I got to this place. It was so clear that I was toiling in my thoughts. I was trying to figure things out. I was trying to work things out in my mind instead of resting in God and letting Him work things out. But telling Daddy, “Thy will be done” is saying, “I give up my will. Whatever You want to do, do it. I’m Your vessel and it’s not about me.”
This is a hard prayer to pray unless we feel like we are touching the bottom of the pool and need a way out. These days are called valleys. I don’t like the valleys at all, and it feels like I’m at my weakest on these days, but on these days, more than ever, God’s voice and His strength says, “Don’t be afraid. I saved you. I named you. You are mine. When you have troubles, I am with you. When you cross rivers, you will not be hurt. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not hurt you.”
Think About It
1. Think about what a brokenness prayer means to you.
2. What things do you do or tell yourself when you’re in a valley?
3. Have you ever been so low in life that you didn’t know what to do? How did you overcome such brokenness?
