Reflecting the Refiner in Business

DAY 5 OF 5

Your Business As A Sacrifice

The Holy Spirit spoke to my heart one day about believers in business offering “strange fire” to the Lord. He said “I want the business to be offered to me. The business should be holy and acceptable to me, not something that I don’t recognize.” Strange fire is unauthorized and unholy to God (see Leviticus 10:1-3) and many believers in business fall into this trap out of fear, pride, or ignorance. Kingdom entrepreneurs are called to offer themselves (and their businesses) as sacrifices that are holy and pleasing to God; this is authentic worship. Our heart’s cry should be that He refines every aspect of our businesses so it looks like Him.

Strange fire in business looks like: using manipulative marketing and sales techniques (knowingly or unknowingly), dishonoring staff or customers, plagiarizing, embracing new age, Wiccan and pagan rituals while simultaneously declaring the word of God, lying (or gross exaggeration), and so many other things that are conformed to the world rather than a transformed mind in Christ.

It’s possible to offer strange fire out of ignorance, so it’s important to lean into God, His wisdom, and His refining. As you allow God to purify you (and reveal the real you), you won’t feel the need to manufacture perceptions in your marketing or client/customer engagement that aren’t rooted in truth in order to look successful or convince people. You won’t feel the need to create labels or box yourself into others’ labels. You will recognize when something you’re being taught by business experts isn’t aligned with the ways and nature of Jesus and be willing to exalt His ways over the business world’s ways. You will experience freedom and His perfect love will cast out your fears.

What an honor it is to partner with God in business, work by the power of His grace and favor, and reveal His glory and character to those in your sphere of influence. You can demonstrate to the world what a business looks like with God’s fingerprints and signature all over it. You can be a sign and a wonder on the earth, impacting lives and advancing the Kingdom of God in the marketplace. This is the invitation that has been presented to us by Abba, our Father. I encourage you to ask the Father what it looks like to have your business on the altar and allow Him to purify every aspect.
